Abstract
123 corn inbred lines were selected as research materials from 3 200 corn inbred lines. Microbiological methods and spectrophotometric methods were used to measure the niacin and zeaxanthin contents in corn grains. The effects of corn type, grain color and grain type on niacin in grains were analyzed. and zeaxanthin content and the correlation between niacin and zeaxanthin content. The results showed that the niacin content in corn kernels ranged from 0.57 to 4.80 mg/100 g. Waxy corn was much higher than ordinary corn, white corn was higher than yellow corn, and purple corn was between white corn and yellow corn. There is no significant difference in niacin content between different grain types and between different grain types of the same grain color. The zeaxanthin content in corn kernels ranges from 0.35 to 4.03 mg/kg. Waxy corn is much lower than ordinary corn, white corn is lower than yellow corn, and purple corn is between white corn and yellow corn. There was no significant difference in zeaxanthin content between different grain types and between different grain types of the same grain color. This shows that corn type and kernel color have extremely significant effects on niacin content and zeaxanthin content, but the main effect of kernel type and the interactive effect of kernel type and kernel color are not significant. Correlation analysis showed that there was a very significant moderate negative correlation between the niacin content in the grain and the zeaxanthin content (r=-0.361, P<0.01), that is, the higher the niacin content in the grain, the lower the zeaxanthin content.
