Abstract

The secreted proteins of E. coli are located in the inner membrane, outer membrane, periplasmic space and extracellular environment. They have certain structures at the N-terminal or C-terminal that contain secretion signals. These two types of secreted proteins are in their own specific group of proteins. It crosses the inner membrane with the assistance of factors, and then achieves its final positioning through a currently unclear method. Molecules with a signal peptide at the N-terminus are assisted by sec family protein factors when crossing the inner membrane, and the signal peptide may be blocked during the transmembrane process. Excision, this process is powered by ATP and electrochemical potential. Molecules with secretion signals at the C-terminal are mainly assisted by Hly family molecules and pass through the inner and outer membranes once without passing through the periplasmic space.
