The Inhibitory Effect Of Spartina On Red Tide Algae And The Isolation And Identification Of Its Algal Inhibitory Substances
Exploring Spartina’s potential in mitigating red tide through inhibitory effects on Heteroflexus and Protodinium microalgae, and isolating effective compounds.
Taking Heteroflexus red tide and Protodinium marine algae as the research objects, the inhibitory effect of the marine tidal flat plant Spartina on two types of red tide microalgae and the algae inhibitory substances were studied. The results showed that the effect of Spartina on Heterocendum red tide was high. The concentration inhibits the growth, while the low concentration has a certain promoting effect. The fresh tissue, dry powder and extract concentration of Spartina sinensis have a lethal effect on Heterocenella red tide when the concentrations are 4.8, 0.8 and 0.5mg¡¤ml-1 respectively; Marine Protodinium showed obvious inhibitory effect, and the concentrations of fresh tissue, dry powder and extract of Spartina were 9.6, 1.6 and 1.25mg¡¤ml-1 respectively, which had a lethal effect on Marine Protodinium. For Spartina The extract was used to separate and purify algae-inhibiting active substances, and two flavonoid glycosides with algae-inhibiting activity were isolated and identified: isorhamnetin-3-o-sophorobiose-7-o-rhamnoside and syringantin. -3-o-galactoside.
Introduction to Spartina’s Role in Red Tide Mitigation
In a significant stride toward understanding and mitigating the detrimental impacts of red tide events, recent research has focused on the inhibitory capabilities of Spartina, a marine tidal flat plant, against two prevalent red tide microalgae: Heteroflexus and Protodinium. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the interaction between Spartina and these microalgae, offering insights into potential natural remedies for red tide phenomena.
Dual Effects of Spartina on Heterocendum Red Tide Microalgae
Red tides, harmful algal blooms that detrimentally affect marine ecosystems, have become increasingly frequent and severe, necessitating the exploration of effective control measures. The research centered on Spartina’s impact on the growth and viability of Heteroflexus and Protodinium microalgae, key contributors to red tide occurrences. The findings reveal that Spartina exerts a dual effect on Heterocendum red tide microalgae: high concentrations of Spartina inhibit growth, while low concentrations may promote it. Specifically, lethal effects were observed when the fresh tissue, dry powder, and extract concentrations of Spartina sinensis were administered at 4.8, 0.8, and 0.5 mg·ml^-1, respectively.
Effective Inhibition of Marine Protodinium by Spartina
Moreover, the study demonstrated Spartina’s potent inhibitory effect on Marine Protodinium. The concentrations of Spartina’s fresh tissue, dry powder, and extract required to exert lethal effects on Marine Protodinium were identified as 9.6, 1.6, and 1.25 mg·ml^-1, respectively. These findings underscore the potential of Spartina as a natural agent in controlling and mitigating red tide outbreaks.
Isolation of Algae-Inhibiting Compounds from Spartina
An integral component of this research involved the isolation and identification of algae-inhibiting substances derived from Spartina extracts. Through meticulous separation and purification processes, two flavonoid glycosides exhibiting significant algae-inhibiting activity were isolated: isorhamnetin-3-o-sophorobiose-7-o-rhamnoside and syringantin-3-o-galactoside. The discovery of these compounds not only advances the understanding of Spartina’s inhibitory mechanisms but also opens avenues for developing natural, eco-friendly strategies for managing harmful algal blooms.
Implications for Marine Ecosystem Management and Conservation
The implications of this study extend beyond the immediate context of red tide management. By elucidating the natural inhibitory effects of Spartina on key red tide microalgae, the research contributes to the broader efforts in sustainable marine ecosystem management and conservation. It highlights the importance of exploring and harnessing natural resources and processes in addressing environmental challenges.
Conclusion: Advancing Red Tide Solutions through Natural Inhibitors
In conclusion, the investigation into Spartina’s algae-inhibiting effects on Heteroflexus and Protodinium red tide microalgae represents a pivotal step forward in the quest to mitigate the impacts of harmful algal blooms. By leveraging the natural properties of marine tidal flat plants, this research paves the way for innovative, environmentally sound solutions to red tide phenomena, with far-reaching benefits for marine biodiversity and ecosystem health.
